1. Choose the Size That is Right for You

Trying to figure out if you need a small dumpster rental or a big dumpster rental can be confusing at first. Each of our four bins have its own weight allowance, which is important for you to keep in mind when renting your bin. From smallest to largest: 6 cubic yard – 1.25-ton allowance. 10 cubic yard – 2-ton allowance. 15 cubic yard – 2.5-ton allowance. 20 cubic yard – 3-ton allowance. 2. Pick Your Placement

This will be key to the convenience of renting with us for your project. If you would like the bin in your driveway, think about which side of the driveway you would like it on. If you need the bin placed on the street, no problem! Just make a note as to how far the area is from any stop signs or fire hydrants, as well as familiarize yourself with any permits your local municipality may require for street placement. If you have that ready before you order the bin, you will be one step ahead. Wherever it is, try to leave clearance for the twin-entry doors. 4. Safety First!

We have all been there - you have moved into a new home or helped a friend move a new couch into theirs. The next day, you have bruises and scratches, and your lower back is complaining as well. Renting a dumpster usually means there is some associated challenging work ahead of you. The results will be exciting but set yourself for success so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor. Use proper footwear and eyewear, if necessary. If you are carrying things out to and into the bin, be sure your path is clear. When lifting heavy objects, keep your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees (not your waist) and lift with your leg muscles, keep your back straight and face forward, and do not bend your neck. Lastly, if the item requires a 2-person carry, ask for help. You will get your project finished faster and safer.

5. Devise a Loading Strategy

Your dumpster has been delivered, your help has arrived, you are ready to begin loading! Take a mental inventory of the bulky items you have; you will want to start with them first. Think of it as a giant game of Tetris. Look at your items and try to imagine if any of them can fit together. Maximize the space you are given by first loading mattresses, couches, large furniture, for instance. Position them in a way that best uses your space, and do not forget to start by loading things in the back and working your way out toward the twin-entry doors.

6. Break it Down and Fill it in

Try to take your small items and make them even smaller. Break down what you can and fit it into the gaps left over from your larger items. This will maximize your space and ensure you are taking advantage of every cubic yard for which you have paid.

7. Keep it Even!

Imagine you are at a restaurant and the waiter is carrying a tray of food to your table. If they crowded everything onto one side of the tray, you would be waiting for your food to be remade while they got a broom and mop. What a mess. Be sure to distribute the weight in your dumpster evenly while loading. When the time comes to haul away the dumpster, if it is heavier on one side than the other, your delivery expert may have trouble lifting the bin onto their truck upon removal.

8. Do not Overfill the Bin

When your delivery expert arrives for removal of the bin, they will fasten a tarp over the top. This keeps debris from being strewn about the road, which would be extremely dangerous. Because of this, be sure to keep a level load. This means nothing sticking up past the top of the bin or out over the sides. Also, as stated in tip number one, each of our dumpsters has its own weight allowance. Keep this in mind while filling the bin, as overweight fees will be applied if your materials exceed these allowances.
